A hand’s breadth above the vain and sensual scent of flowers, among the hypnotic colors of the daffodils, flowers of deceit, the circular flight of a butterfly.
Slow and unpredictable, like imagination.
How many times do we remain mesmerized? In a frantic race that increasingly takes us nowhere? How many times is the first step always the last?
How many times do we feel that it’s too late? But for what?
Clara Blavet’ music speaks of our fragilities through an intense and evocative repertoire, combining contemporary and chamber music with electronics and alternative pop.
I composed the music for my album driven by three main urgencies: (1) to talk about emotions, those most unexplored and confused, those we cannot name while submerged in the social frenzy we face, (2) to create an original repertoire for flute ensemble, and (3) through new writing that unites classical music with Italian pop and singer-songwriter styles, contemporary and electronic music.
It is in the environment of the Conservatory of Amsterdam that collaborations arise with Kersten McCall, principal flutist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, baroque singer Viola Blache, and Mexican producer Omar Medina, with whom I recorded the music of Narcisi e camomille.
Original compositions designed for an ensemble of only flutes (basses, altos, and sopranos), voice, and electronics. Following the recent collaboration of Björk with the Icelandic flute ensemble VIIBRA (with whom Clara is in contact and which she involves in her Master Research Utopia presented and filed at the Conservatory of Amsterdam), Clara explores uncharted sonic territories between classical, popular, and electronic music, with a group that she loves and that has influenced her entire academic and musical training. Narcisi e camomille is a continuous blooming of flutes and voices that create a vibrant and at times moving sound, an elegant choir with a groovy instinct. A sound world to investigate and discover slowly, one flower at a time.
